Your own server, isolated by design

No noisy neighbours and no shared kernel. Every dedicated and VPS instance is isolated at the hardware or hypervisor level, with its own resources and its own attack surface to defend.

  • Full root access, your own firewall rules
  • DDoS and DNS-flood protection at the network edge
  • Automatic daily backups, kept for seven days

From VPS to bare metal, layer by layer

The same six layers sit under every server. What changes from a shared vCPU to a whole machine is how many of them are yours alone.

Who owns each layer of a server Layers of a server, from your applications at the top to the data centre at the bottom, for shared vCPU, dedicated vCPU and bare metal. Your applications and the operating system with root access are yours in all three. CPU cores are shared on a shared vCPU and yours on the other two. The hypervisor is run by the provider on both vCPU kinds and absent on bare metal. The physical server is shared on both vCPU kinds and yours alone on bare metal. The data centre, power and network are run by the provider in all three. Shared vCPU: your own server on borrowed cores

You get your own operating system and root access, but the virtual cores are scheduled on physical cores that other customers' servers use too. It is the lightest way to run, and at peak times a busy neighbour can slow a shared core down.

Cloud Lite and Performance EPYC

Dedicated vCPU: cores reserved for you

A vCPU is typically one hardware thread, and here no other customer's server is scheduled on it, so performance stays steady. The host machine and its hypervisor are still shared, and the hypervisor is what keeps servers apart.

VPS and Cloud

Bare metal: the whole machine

The entire physical server is rented to you. There is no hypervisor between your operating system and the hardware, and every core, every gigabyte of memory and every drive is yours.

  • Why NVMe. An NVMe drive talks to the CPU over PCIe with up to 65,535 queues of up to 65,536 commands each. SATA's AHCI interface has one queue of 32, so databases and build jobs that read and write in parallel gain the most.
  • Shared or dedicated vCPU. A vCPU is typically one hardware thread. A dedicated vCPU is reserved for your server; a shared one is scheduled alongside other customers' servers.
  • Bare metal. A dedicated server has no hypervisor, so all the cores, memory and drives listed for it belong to your operating system alone.

Traffic Packages

Every cloud and VPS plan includes 20 TB a month (30–60 TB on the larger tiers) and dedicated servers are unmetered at 1 Gbit/s. If you need more, commit to a bundle and the rate falls.

Questions and answers

Do I get root access to my server?

Yes. Full root access stays with you on every VPS, cloud and dedicated server you rent from us, and each one runs its own operating system.

How much traffic is included?

Every cloud and VPS plan includes 20 TB a month, 30 to 60 TB on the larger tiers, and dedicated servers are unmetered at 1 Gbit/s. Traffic is measured outbound only; inbound is free.

What is the difference between a VPS and a dedicated server?

A VPS gets its own operating system and root access, but its virtual cores run on physical cores that other customers' servers use too. A dedicated server is the whole physical machine, with no hypervisor between your operating system and the hardware.

Can you manage the server for me?

Yes. A managed plan puts us in charge of the server: patches, monitoring, backups and incidents. See managed servers.
